Julie White - Episode 006
Julie White is the Managing Director of D-Drill, a specialist diamond drilling and saw cutting company.
Under her stewardship, Julie has invested heavily in training and apprenticeships spending five times the industry average and wrote an article for the Huffington Post on the importance of apprenticeship training.
Julie is an innovator within the construction industry pushing for efficiency, training, and safety through technology. Having been highly visible within the specialist Diamond Drilling sector and a director of the Drilling & Sawing Association since 2010, she has recently broken new ground by being appointed the World President of the International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers (IACDS), the first woman to hold this position. The IACDS promotes best practice and shares information with members on the latest technology and developments within the industry.
Julie is taking a lead role in the new Build UK board where she chairs the training board, and is part of the main board. The newly formed organisation has equal representation from main and specialist contractors including joint chairmen James Wates (Wates Group) and Kevin Louch (Stanford – ACIFC), as well as Paul Abson (Bouygues UK), Mark Castle (Mace Group), Greg Craig (Skanska), Matt Nicholson (Lakesmere NRFC) and Steve Bratt (ECA).
On being appointed Julie said:
"I am delighted to be part of the Build UK board and I am very much looking forward to working with partners across the construction industry to drive and deliver positive change. This is an exciting step and one I am very pleased to be part of."
One of Julie's key commitments to the industry focuses around Health & Safety through a skilled workforce and she is passionate about ensuring opportunities are available, through apprenticeships, for the local workforce across the D-Drill branch network.
In 2011 Julie was chosen as the Vitalise Businesswoman of the Year and has appeared on many programmes in radio and television including BBC Question Time, The One Show, BBC Breakfast and has reviews in tabloids including The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Mail on Sunday and The Daily Telegraph.
